St. Timothy

As is often but not always the case, St. Timothy is portrayed as a beardless youth. The object in his hand is clearly a cudgel like those used to beat him to death, but the artist has given it a feathery surface texture like a martyr's palm branch. The cope refers to his legendary status as the first bishop of Ephesus. The inscription above his head is S.TIMOTHEUS.MARTYR, "St. Timothy Martyr."
